Yes, those bones are the shoulder blades (scapulas) and will become prominent when a cat loses weight. Have you noticed that she's more thin all over lately?

Do they stick out more from side to side as she moves her head?
Expert:  Dr. Michael Salkin replied 3 months ago.

Thank you. Yes, the same thing happens with us.

Hello, and welcome.

Thank you for your question about Smudgie. When she is half crouching, yes, it is normal for her shoulder blades to stick up. If she has lost a lot of weight recently, you would also see her shoulder blades become more prominent, in general. If she hasn't lost weight recently and is eating, drinking, eliminating and moving, playing, running, jumping without pain, there should be no problem.

I hope this helped!

How much does she weigh?

How long have you noticed her shoulder bones sticking out?

Expert:  Terri replied 3 months ago.

Hello,

You do not need to worry.

It is normal for shoulder bones to appear prominnant when the cat (or person) is on the thin side.

As long as Smudgie is eating drinking and eliminating normally there is no cause for concern.

Please let me know if you wish to discuss this further.

Kind regards,

Terri
