Terri, My cat is two years old and past month wakes me up

Customer Question

Hi Terri,
My cat is two years old and for the past month wakes me up religiously at around 430 am by walking around all over in my room and meowing. It's a mix of meowing and almost a cooing whining sound. I need sleep and he hasn't been sleeping as much as he used to. Usually he sleeps all through the night and if he doesn't he's usually quiet. Again I need sleep and he does this meowing for at least two hours straight of non stop meowing and jumping up and walking all over every bit of furniture. I try petting him and making him lay down (usually he's very snuggly) but he wiggles away. Is he ok? Can I give him a sleeping aid?

Hi Alex,

Thanks so much for requesting me. It is my pleasure to help.

I am sorry Apollo is waking you up. A lot of people think cats are nocturnal but actually they are crepuscular. That means they are most active dawn and dusk because that is when their prey is active.

You can give Apollo melatonin to regulate his sleep cycles. Begin with one mg and you can work up to 3 mg, if necessary.

It has no taste so just add it to canned food once a day and he will not even detect it.

In addition, feed him a canned food meal with turkey. It contains l-triptophan and is sleep inducing.

Please let me know how things are going.

Please be so kind as to rate my answer with positive feedback; that is the only way I receive credit for my assistance. Thank you very much!

I also want to mention he may be hungry so try an autofeeder that will open at a time you set and keep him busy

Those are examples but you can get it cheaper on ebay.
