I think one of my kids sprayed the cat with air freshener and he has been vomiting today. I found the tip of his tail wet and when I smelled it (to see if it was water from his water dish, pee or vomit) it smelled strongly like air freshener. Maybe he tried licking it off and got sick? Any suggestions?

Hello. Thanks for writing in.
How often has he vomited?
Can you open his mouth and take a look into it? If so, do you notice any sores in his mouth?
Any redness in his eyes?
If you press on his abdomen from both sides, is he painful or uncomfortable?
He has vomited at least five time that I know of, although now it's more watery. I don't see any sores in his mouth. His eyes are clear and normal color. As soon as I try to pick him up his stomach will heave. He's seems to be uncomfortable, he doesn't really want to lay down and when he does it's not a "relaxed" position. (He likes to lay on his sides)
Thanks for the information. It could be an upset stomach from licking air fresheners, but he would most likely have to ingest quite a bit of it. If it was sprayed in his face, I would expect him to have some redness in the eyes and more coughing. With the abdominal pain, I would be more concerned that he swallowed something that is causing an obstruction. I am concerned about his signs enough that I would recommend getting him into your nearest veterinary emergency clinic to get evaluated. The signs you are seeing could be a more serious issue. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Hope this helps.

Hi Andrea,I'm just following up on our conversation about Shrek. How is everything going?Texas Veterinarian
Hello and thank you for all of your help. I continued to try to find out what was on shrek so we could inform the emergency vet center when we got there (it was liquid potpourri residue!!), where they sedated him to wash him and give him an emetic and charcoal. We brought him home that night even though they had given him a long-acting sedative. He is finally back to his old self after an additional 24 hours. Thank you again for your advice and help in a stressful situation!
You are very welcome. Yep, potpourri residue can actually cause a lot of oral and GI irritation. Glad he is doing better!!
