Customer Question

My cat had her kidney removed 4 days ago, today shes walking around meowing a lot with her back arched. She drinks water but can't pee. I dont know what else to do. Shes not eating either.

Optional Information:
Pet's Gender: Female
Pet's Age: 1
Name of Cat: chessie

Already Tried:
shes been going to the vet ever since she had the surgery, and they told me to be alert in case something odd happened, though the surgery went well. I noticed she drinks water and cant pee, and that she hasnt eaten since before the surgery. Today shes very uncomfortable, just walking around (apparently) in pain and meowing loudly with her her back arched.

Hi,

If your cat can not physically urinate today this is an emergency. If your vet sees after hours appointments call them. Otherwise an emergency vet would be your best bet. Also, the fact that she hasn't eaten for more than 4 days is cause for concern. Cats can develop a condition called hepatic lipidosis from not eating, and Chessie certainly doesn't need that on top of recovering from surgery.

If you have further questions let me know. Please do not leave me a feedback rating until you are completely satisfied with your answer. Thank you.

Best wishes,

Lynn

I just took her to the vet, not her surgeron, but one that attended her before the surgery. They put her on saline solution for her dehydration, but she's still not urinating... Ill take her to her surgeron tomorrow, an eco was recommended by the vet that saw her today. For the time being, theres nothing else I can do right?

No, I'm sorry, but there's not anything you can do for this problem at home.

Hi Alex,

I'm just following up on our conversation about Chessie. How is everything going?

Lynn

Customer replied312 days and 3 hours ago.

Hi, well, after we last talked, I took her to the vet and he kept her on saline solution until today, when she returned home. She's drinking water and only licks a little of ther Hills prescription pate for pets. But I guess it's something, I have to talk to her vet every day to tell him how she's doing, if she eats and so. Thank you for asking. She wont eat anything she needs to chew, no iams, no chicken either. Only her pate.

Thanks for letting me know. Its important to keep her eating, so at least the pate is something. Try warming it up if you haven't, sometimes that makes it a more tempting to pets that don't feel well.

Best wishes,

Lynn
