Customer Question

My cat was hunting something outside when we heard a snake rattle. We took the cat home (10 min. ago) and she is very sleepy, and passive. Eyes OK, no visible swelling that I can see, breathing OK, just very sleepy. Could this be a snake bite?

Thanks!

Hello,I would love to help I just have a few additional questions.

Can you check her over really good do you see any blood anywhere or any puncture wounds. When you heard the snake rattle did you see her do anything like jump backwards cry or anything that indicated she was struck?

Customer replied 318 days and 12 hours ago.

We did not see her jump backwards or cry. No blood or puncture wound. She was purring as I was looking her over. And just went to her food.

Ok If she was bitten by a snake even non venomous she would have reacted and most of them will literally jump straight up in the air and scream. With a rattle snake bite you would have also seen swelling within just a few minutes even with what we call a dry bite.

It is possible she got into something else but living in Florida we see a lot of rattle snake bites and this does not sound like what is going on here.

I would just keep a close eye on her for now make sure she continues to eat and drink. If she becomes so sleepy that you can not wake her or has any new symptoms then I would have her seen by a vet.

I hope this helps and she does ok, please reply back if you have additional questions or concerns
