I just traveled by car with my cat for 6 hours yesterday. When we got to the hotel she wouldn't drink water, and I haven't actually see her drinking the water, I'm concerned that shes not drinking water, how can I get her to drink water? Also her nose is bright pink where it is usually a pale pink, is this an indication of something bad? She's a year old and is up to date on her shots. I am really concerned about this, she is using her litter box though so thats my only little sliver of hope.
Optional Information: Pet's Gender: Female Pet's Age: 1 Name of Cat: Pumpkin Already Tried: I've tried bottled water and tap water and running water, also she has been sitting on the window sill pretty much all day, can the redness be sunburn?
Hello,I am sorry to hear Pumpkin is having some trouble. I would love to help I just have a few questions so I can better assist you. Please understand I try to ask all relevant questions at one time, however your reply may prompt a few more. Since I am unable to see your pet I must rely on information.Has she eaten today if so was it wet or dry food?Is this the first time she has traveled?Other then not drinking how is she acting?
She's eating wet food, I am trying to pour more water on it to kind of make her have some water, she isn't eating her normal dry food though, or if she is its very minuscule.Yes this is the first time she's traveled, she was excellent in the car. She has been on short car trips before the longest being 1 hour.To be honest she's acting herself and not being weird, I think she feels safest on the windowsill because thats where I tend to find her
Thank you for the additional information. What you are seeing is not uncommon at all many pets when traveling will not eat, drink or use the bathroom for the first day or two.Pumpkin is actually doing very well by cat standards. Most cats do not do well with change and traveling can cause serious problems like not eating and going to the bathroom outside of the box.If she is eating wet food then she is getting hydrated. At this point I would not worry about the dry and just offer extra wet food. You can also offer her some tuna water to entice her if you are concerned she is not drinking. Some things you can do to help her feel more comfortable is get some Feliway spray or even a Feliway plug in at the local pet store. These release calming pheromones and work very well to reduce anxiety.Another thing you may want to try when traveling is one of the pheromone collars. Feliway also makes a collar or recently we have been recommending the NurtureCALM collar. This may need to be purchased by your vet.Click hereIf she normally has a lighter nose then and is sitting in the window then yes this can be due to sunburn or she may even be over heating a little if she is hiding there most of the day.I would try not to worry to much at this point as long as she is eating. A cat that is sick in pain or extremely stressed in most cases will not eat.I hope this helps ease your mind.
