Customer Question

I have a calico cat who won't allow her claws to be clipped. Once I accidentally cut too close, so I understand her fear. However she snags everything, so I have to do something. I am thinking maybe it is possible to sedate her??? She weighs 10.3 pounds. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Hello,I am sorry to hear Pandy is having some trouble.

This is actually not an uncommon problem in cats, however there are a few things that may help.

Your vet can apply a cover called soft paws. I do not recommend doing this yourself because I have seen to many glue mishaps. Click here for this

Other options would be
* Check with the veterinary technicians at your vets office many of them will come out and do this for you for a small fee?
* Try wrapping in a towel that has been sprayed with feliway spray to help calm her
* Composure treats may also help click here
* As for sedating there is nothing over the counter that is really going to provide the level of sedation and as soon as she gets upset any sedative effects will likely be lost. For sedating I would suggest contacting your vet and let them know what you want to do. Most vets will give you a mild sedative to help calm her down.

The following video may help give you some additional ideas as well. Click here

I hope this helps, please reply back if you have additional questions or concerns
