Customer Question

My cat is 1 year old. She was vaccinated for cat flu in November. But recently she has been sneezing and coughing. She was pregnant and gave birth to 3 kittens 2 days ago. But today I noticed 2 of the kittens look a bit like they may be coughing. What can I do?

Sorry for the delay, the chat function wasn't working properly, so I had to switch to a different format.

It's possible that your mama cat could have contracted an upper respiratory infection. This is less devastating to her than it would be in your newborn kittens.

If you think your kittens are coughing or having troubles breathing, this would be an emergency situation for the kittens. It would be safest for them if you got them in to see an emergency veterinarian right away.

When kittens are very young, they don't have the proper immune systems to deal with infections, and they can decline very quickly. An ER vet will be able to help provide them with supportive care, temperature regulation, and oxygen therapy if they are having difficulties breathing.

If you don't know of an emergency clinic in your area, you can locate one by using this site here.

If you have any follow-up questions or concerns, please hit "reply", and I would be glad to address them for you. Otherwise, good luck with your kittens, an I hope they are on the road to recovery soon!VetTechErin41035.3557955208
