Hi there,

How long does he have this?

Is he having normal bowel movements?

Is he eating?

Indoor kitty?

Thanks,

Terri

Hi Terri,

thank you for your reply. Today is the first day I have noticed it. He is a very social cat, so I don't think I could have missed it for to long, at most 1-2 days.

He seems to have normal bowel movements. I checked the litter box. I have two cats, so I am not 100% sure, but it couldn't have been from my other cat alone.

I checked if my other cat had the same problem (to check if it may be a parasite), but she is fine.

He is eating.

He acts very normal.

He is an indoor cat.

Dear friend,

I am sorry your boy has trouble but I dont think this is a serious issue.

It can be an infected anal sac, boil or fissure.

Apply very warm damp compresses a few tines a day. Next use plain neosporin or even vaseline on his anus and the lesion.

Make sure he continues too eliminate both urine and feces normally.

Feed him some canned food with a tablespoon of water added.

Please let me know how he is doing.

I hope he will be just fine.

Warmest best wishes,

Terri

I am worried about the black crusting, couldn't that be blood?
Expert:  Terri replied 7 years ago.
Its possible the sore bled a bit. The damp compress will come away orange if it is blood.

As long as he has normal stool and urine just treat the sore.

If it gets infected he may need an antibiotic but right now it can be treated at home. There is no sense stressing him out at this point with a vet visit.

Does it matter if he licks the vaseline?
Expert:  Terri replied 7 years ago.

No, its fine for him to lick vaseline or even plain neosporin (which is mostly vaseline) The same ingredient is in cat lax so it cannot hurt him.

Please let me know how he is later.

Best wishes for him,

Terri

Thank you very much. I will try this for 1-2 days and get back to you (and accept at that time). If he is not better by Friday, I better take him to the vet.
Expert:  Terri replied 7 years ago.

Thats fine, just take as long as you need.

There is no hurry to accept an answer. I only care about your kitty. He is the only important thing to me.

I hope he will be just fine,

Terri
