My cat has a strange lump under his chin. It doesn't feel solid doesn't seem to be bothering him at all. His gums are nice and pink and healthy looking and his teeth look great. No runny eyes or nose at all. He has a couple of scabs on them but nothing serious looking. I just recently adopted him and changed his food over. I first noticed it two weeks ago and it very recently gotten worse. could this be a food allergy?

HI, thanks for your question! How long has the problem been there?
I want to say that i noticed it a week ago. Didn't really think anything of it because it wasn't bothering him at all. But i looked at him yesturday and its now swollen and seems to have gotten worse. It stilld doesn't look to be bothering him. He's still eating and playing with the other cats.
OK, thanks. Is there any crust or debris on the skin in this area?
there's two small scabs but no discharge or anything. he doesn't seem to be scratching at it.
OK, thanks for the information. This is most likely Feline Chin Acne, which is a fairly common problem. It's usually a mild bacterial infection of the skin, which will often respond to antibiotics, but there's often an underlying allergy that causes the problem to happen. We usually recommend eliminating all plastic bowls for food (use stainless steel, or glass), and also try to eliminate any toys that are plastic or have dyes, etc in them. If this doesn't help prevent the problem from coming back, then sometimes a low-allergen diet is needed.
