can my cat take cephalexin? if so what dosage. I have some from my vet that is current that was prescribed for my dog with his skin issues. My cat was bitten and formed an abcess which has drained, but my horse's vet said he would need antibiotics. I am an R.N. at the local hospital, have been for many years. I am short on money and don't want to spend more money on a vet visit, if I can treat him myself. I have several pets, and it gets expensive. Thanks so much. Julie
Optional Information: Age: 11; Male; Breed: tabby cat Already Tried: he has just been resting for several days, chewed the scab off yesterday, and tons of puss poured out. He is still licking the site and it is still oozing.
Keep the abscess open and draining with warm compresses twice daily. You can give 50 to 75 mg of cephalexin twice daily for 7 to 10 days.
