My cat, aged 1, ate a bee at lunch time. Shseems rather lethargic now and isn''t purring. She has had a bit to eat, but I am worried that the bee may have harmed her. What should I do? Many thanks

Hello
A couple of questions please:
Did she defintely swallow the bee?
Are there any swellings or puffiness anywhere on her body or tongue?
Has she been vomiting at all?
Thanks
Definitely swallowed it. Not vomiting and no swellings. She does seem a bit more lively now but I would like to know what we should do for future ref. We have recently acquired her & today is the first day that there have been flying insects around. She has gone crazy chasing them!!!
Hi
I don't think the bee will have caused any problems by being swallowed. I suspect it will have reached the stomach before it had a chance to do any damage and it will not have been able to implant its sting into the stomach lining.
It would be more of a concern in the future if your kitty were simply to catch the bee or stinging insect in her mouth. It is possible for a sting to occur here. This would cause pain and possibly an urticarial reaction with swelling and puffiness around the face. If this is severe you should get her to the vet soon as it may cause swelling around the throat.
This said, cats seem to be good at avoiding stings and I rarely treat them for this problem.
Keep an eye on her now, I am sure she will be ok.
