My cat ate a spider plant and is currently in the hospital ...

This answer was rated:

My cat ate a spider plant and is currently in the hospital since 12/29. For about 7 days he ate only a bite or 2 and no water. I told doctor he ate spider but he says there is no antidote and he xrayed and at first saw some foreign object in stomach but has since disappearred. Kitten is 6 mos. He is not lethargic at all. Only indication of illness is not taking in food or water. Doc doesn't believe he is posioned because he is not exhibiting the expected signs. The only thing they have done is the IV , xray and wait and see approach.   He was going to open him but now he is waiting thinking it could be tree tinsel. Please help. Ifm I loose him my child and I will be devsastated. He said next step may be barium enema. He's been in hospiatl 3 days. No pet insurance. I must save him. Please help me. My son is 6 and crying his eyes out.
Spider plants are not really toxic to cats though they can be a hallucinogen for them

The IV is supplying fluids and some nutrition which is good.
At this point as he ate so little for so long he could be having a problem with fatty liver and need to be coaxed or even forced back into eating

He may be suffering from swallowing something that didn't show on x-ray such as plastic wrap or something like that that is causing a problem.
One of my cats ate plastic plant fronds and we only figured it out when we finally found some in the litterbox after weeks of problems with him and negative x-rays.

dOC SAID IT COULD BE TREE TINSEL WHICH WORE OFF. hE'S NOT DRINKING EITHER THUS HAS iv. hIS BEHAVIOR OTHERWISE IS NORMAL. bUT YET HOW HE IS NO FOOD JUST A BITE ORN TWO AND NO WATER IF i BRING HIME HOMME HE MAAY DIE. aND WOULD YOU LET THEM OPEN HIS STOMACH IF HE DOESN'T IMPROVE. i AM CONFUSED AND DEVASTATED. lORD ONLY KNOW HIS BILL THUS FAR BUT i HAVE GOT TO SAVE HIM
I would say do the barium x-ray if there is no improvement. Or do the exploratory surgery. But checking liver enzyme bloodwork at this point might be a good idea too.
You can also see if the vet will insert a feeding tube so you can force him to eat at home.
The link I gave you to the maravistavet website discusses feeding tubes.
