Resolved Question:

my cat has black stuff on one side of her mouth that I wipe off, but it comes back. she slurps her water now and stains things that she sleeps on when she drools, including herself. What is this? She has an odor from it too.

Hi Jane,

Excessive salivation with a bad odor, plus the fact that she has a discolored discharge and is now 'slurping' her water, indicates there's a problem with her teeth, gums, throat, tonsils or the inside of her mouth. She could have an abscessed or infected tooth or gums or sores in her mouth, on her tongue or in her throat.

Your cat needs to see the vet to diagnose the problem and then treat it.

Please take your cat to the vet right away so she'll start feeling better and so will you! : )
