what would cause my cats gums to turn black

Resolved Question:

My cat is meowing like something is bothering him, i looked in his mouth and his gums are black on one side and and there seems to be a hole in his gums, he also was drowling, what could cause this?

This could be a serious infection of the gums, an oral cancer, a yeast type infection, stomatitis etc.

If the cat lives with any smokers that could make oral cancer more likely
He needs to see a vet as soon as possible to find out what is causing this and if it can be treated.
