My 1yr old indoor cat has been sneezing alot the past 2 days and acting very lathargic. He has some drainage in one eye but still plays, eats, and goes to the litterbox the same. This is happening at the same time my wife has been diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection and the flu. Is there any corelation with her sickness and is there anything I should do?Optional Information: Age: 1; Male; Breed: gray tabie cat
She can't catch your wife's illness but she can come down with one of her own.
Cats can suffer from upper respiratory infections much like people.
I suggest you keep an eye on her. If the sneezing continues or the cat has yellow or green mucus from the nose, you will want to see the vet first thing for possible antibiotics.
If she is congested, you can use pediatric (not adult) nasal saline drops to help clear the mucus from the nose.
Cats can also suffer from allergies. If you suspect this, you should talk with your vet about using an antihistamine to help her feel better. You can also flush the eyes with warm saline to help clear any debris or irritants.
Let me know if you still have questions.
