Have Cat Questions? Ask a Cat Vet Online.
I am sorry for your loss. It sounds like your cat had a long and healthy life despite the disease.
Most vets recommend that you wait 6 months to introduce a new cat to the home. Be sure that you discard all the old scratching posts, toys, feeding bowls and other items that the former resident used. If the food bowls are ceramic (meaning of non porous material) you can disinfect them with bleach.
If you want to be even more careful, you can adopt an adult cat or a teenager that has already had a full round of vaccines. This will help to protect the newbies.
I hope this helps!
Let me know if you still have questions.
You are more than welcome. I hope you come back with more questions in the future.
Don't forget that your local animal shelter has lots of great cats that have already been vaccinated. Or you check www.petfinder.com and can see pics of pets that are in local shelters and rescue groups.
