Over the counter medications are not safe for cats so that will not work.
If you fed him people food, this could definitely be the cause. If you suspect this, you can switch him over to a bland diet. Baby food like chicken and rice, lamb and rice or turkey and rice works well. Just go for a product that has no onions and no garlic. This will help to settle his stomach.
If this doesn't work, you will want to see the vet to rule out a parasite problem that might be causing the diarrhea.
