Have Cat Questions? Ask a Cat Vet Online.
There are a couple of problems that cats can have as they age and both can cause blindness.
The first is hypertension. This is usually caused by a thyroid disorder.
The second concern is kidney disease. I would worry more about this.
You need to see the vet right away. What happens with both of these diseases is that the retinal detatchment occurs and the cat can lose sight permanently.
If you catch it quickly, there is a good chance that you can stop the retinal detatchment and the cat will ragain sight.
With a kidney problem, the vet will probably increase fluid and get him on a renal diet. This can help a great deal
There ARE effective treatments for both of these conditions.
I hope that you understand how urgent it is that you see the vet soon!

You are already seeing the blindness, the #1 symptom. He might also seem depressed, lethargic, and you might see neurological symptoms like stumbling, falling over and an inability to stand.
