You can use neosporin...probably the one that says +PAIN because it has a topical anesthetic. Try to distract after putting the medication on...so there is some contact time.
The bootie on the foot is great...if she will leave it on!

Any medication can have adverse effects, but I would say the chances are minimum and rare. Without seeing it I don't know if it is infected...but topical cleaning and care should help. Most of the lesions are from self mutilation...so to stopthe scratching is the key. That is why cortizone is frequently given.
