Customer Question

My mothers pet chicken had a sudden change in health . She was fine then she could not stand. Hours later she laid one egg, stood up and then later resumed the same sit position. She will not eat and is given water on a syringe. She had one spastic episode and has been come but alert since last night. I was wondering if she is egg bound or has meraks? Is there anyway to tell the conditions apart ?

Elizabeth, I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. We don't have many avian vets on this site. I need you to clarify a few things for me, please...

Please describe the "spastic episode".

"has been come but alert" is unclear to me...she's more alert now?

Mareks can look like anything. Please review this excellent synopsis: http://www.birdhealth.com.au/#!mareks-disease/c1qzk

Egg binding is evidenced by a hen walking like a penguin, repeatedly squatting as if to lay, abdominal straining, frequent sitting, passing wet or no dropping (if the egg is obstructing the colon) and the general symptoms of an ill bird - inappetence and lethargy.

Hi,

I'm just following up on our conversation about Lurkin. How is everything going?
