Hello,

Some additional information will help me to answer your question.

Does Isabella move backwards all the time, or only sometimes?

Has she been passing normal droppings?

Is there anything else out fo the ordinary?

Thank you.

Thank you for getting back to me. Can you tell me if she walks backward all the time, or only sometimes? This is important information to determine what is going on.

Thank you.

Thank you. Some quails will walk backward just before they pass droppings. This is normal. It's also normal to walk backward from time to time while scratching in the dirt to make a dust bath or look for food.

Walking backward becomes abnormal under two circumstances. If a quail is constipated, it may walk backward for an extended time in an attempt to pass some droppings. Certain neurological disorders could also cause this. The quail would walk backward all the time, or it may walk in circles or fall over in those cases.

If your quail only did this for one day, and then returned to walking forward, it is not likely to be anything to worry about. If you would like any additional information or have more questions please don’t hesitate to ask!
