Customer Question

My 7 year old has a fever of 103 and is complaining of a headache. He was outside for about 2 hours at a soccer game with temps in the low 80's but sunny. He started complaining of a headache about an hour ago and said he didn't feel good. I then took his temp and that's what it is. I just gave him 2tsp of children's Tylenol but should I take him to the ER?
JA: Do you keep personal medical records to help track this?
Customer: No this just happened today, he was fine as far as I know before the game. He didn't play but he sat out in the sun while his older brother played and I coached. He seemed perfectly fine during that time.
JA: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?
Customer: No, but he is adopted and we don't have a real clear medical history-I have his half siblings as well but they overall seem very healthy.

How is urine output?

How is his mental state?

Does he have any other symptom besides this temperature?

Hello again,
I was waiting for response from you.
The rise of temperature can occur from a few probables.
It can be heat related but in heat stroke it is too high.
An infection is also possible.
You can wait & watch as the temperature has come down.
Please keep him in a cool environment.
Give him plenty of fluid & keep at rest.
Watch his urine output.
In dehydration it would decrease.
I hope this information will be helpful.

Seems to be normal

So you can continue fluid, tylenol.

If the fever does not subside, please get him examined by doctor in the morning.
