Customer Question

I have a 13 year old son and did a bloodtest on Friday and only his wbc is 4.3.
Has a severe tonsil infection and got antibiotics, amoxicilline, one day before taking a blood
test.Is that the reason before too low wbc count?

Write in details

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
All other blood values are normal.
Expert:  Dr. Su S. replied 1 year ago.

Thank you for the input.
His WBC level is slightly lower than normal.
He had a recent severe infection treated with amoxicillin.
It can lower the count.
As all other levels are within normal limit and he does not have any symptom, no need to worry.
It will come back to normal within a few weeks.
I hope this information will be helpful.

Maybe I did not explain well.
He became ill last Thursday and went to GP since he was vomiting because of his infected
Tonsils that he even vomit some blood. The GP gave him that they antibiotics.
The next day in the afternoon he went to take his bloodtest since he had a petechia in his neck.
Today he got the results I sent you.I believe he vomit soo much that he got the petechia.
Or does it has something to do with the slighty low wbc? He is still taking antibiotics.
Expert:  Dr. Su S. replied 12 months ago.

I understood.

Though he was taking antibiotic, infection was still there.

It takes some time to get fully controlled.

Forceful vomiting can cause petechia.

Low WBC will not be the cause.

Low platelet count can cause petechia, but his other counts are normal.

Customer: replied 12 months ago.
if all other blood results are normal most probably his slightly low wbc is caused by infection
and antibiotics.?
Expert:  Dr. Su S. replied 12 months ago.

Yes.

You need not to worry about the count.

It is not very low.

In most labs, the normal range varies from 4,500 to 10,000.

His level is a little below that.
