Greetings,

Thank you for using Just answer.

I am Dr Su S. I shall try my best to help you.

The disease spreads through the secretions of respiratory, intestinal tract like nasal or throat secretions, stool.

It is also spread through direct contact with blister fluid.

It is most contagious during the first week of the illness.

He should be out of your care till the fever subsides or till the blisters, if there is any are healed.

The usual period for the symptoms to arise is 3-6 days after initial contact.

So by this period her sister may develop the symptoms.

If she has any symptom she should also avoid coming.

Frequent hand washing should be practiced.

It is particularly important after using toilet & before taking meals.

The toys should be cleaned with a disinfectant.

Virus can stay there for a few days.

I hope this information will be helpful.

The blisters are in his mouth on the roof of the mouth apparently and fever.

So safely I should tell them to be gone all week?

Expert:  Dr. Su S. replied 1 year ago.

The hand foot and mouth disease is most contagious during 1st week of illness.

One week would be sufficient.

If the symptoms persist longer, then they should wait till the blisters heal completely.

Ok and the father also said to me that his 10 yr old daughter cannot get this? Not sure if that's true or if he is just needing daycare

Expert:  Dr. Su S. replied 1 year ago.

Infant and children up to 5 years are more susceptible to get the infection.

But it can affect older children and adult too.
