My 3.5 year old has clear drainage, no fever. weeks

Customer Question

My 3.5 year old has clear drainage, no fever. For 2 weeks he has been on children's claritin in the morning and children's zyrtec 12 hours later. Until last night this has worked great. Last night he was up coughing for 6 hours due to drainage. I didn't want to give him more meds as he already had zrytec. Instead of zrytec would benedryl or delsym work better at night for the cough?

Hello, Yes indeed night time dosing of benadryl may relieve cough. You have though to position him right, on one of sides to prevent post-nasal drip disturbing larynx and upper airway. Before last meal please also try to drain out upper air-way of sticky mucus by inverting his position, lowering head and raising lower limb while placing on tummy on your stretched legs and thumping upper chest to loosen and drain out cough.
