Resolved Question:

Is there a reason why my 9 weeks old baby is having a lot of smelly gas but no poop for 3 days? She's on breast milk with formula top up. She has been pretty cranky tonight. How can I tell if she's having an upset stomach?

Dr. Yogindra Vasavada :

Hello, No concern about this symptom. Smell could be due to mild indigestion of milk protein but will come round.

Dr. Yogindra Vasavada :

No need for daily poop also. She may comfortably go without one for a week too.

Dr. Yogindra Vasavada :

Upset stomach is indicated by vomiting and diarrhea. She may be uncomfortable due to air sucked in while feeding. Please latch her well, with good airtight fit of lips.

Dr. Yogindra Vasavada :

Also please burp her often during and after each feed.

Dr. Yogindra Vasavada :

Please change her sides while asleep and when cranky. May also be comforted on your shoulder.

Dr. Yogindra Vasavada :

Please record her weight also every week or fortnight.Hope she is gaining well.

Dr. Yogindra Vasavada :

Good luck to her.
