we took our son to a not so clean public pool. his ear was in the water so we think there were some water that got into his ear. are there anything we need to be aware of and if so, are there any preventive measures we can take to reduce any potential risks?
Greetings,

Thank you for your question.

I am Dr. Su S. and I will try my best to help you.

When did you take him to the pool?

Does he have any symptom now?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

a few hours ago. no symptoms. he fell asleep not long after. just looking to know some general knowledge about potential problems and preventive measures.

Thank you for the input.

If water gets trapped in the ear, there can be development of infection or otitis.

Then he can feel pain, pull on the ears.

As a preventive measure to drain water you can pull on the ear lobe now & put a drop or two of rubbing alcohol .

The water would evaporate with alcohol.

yes, I use a bit of alcohol after I swim as well. but will alcohol be too harsh for him at such a young age.

1-2 drops would not be harmful.

This is application to external ear & would not get absorbed into body.
