My 14 month old will not sleep for more than 2 hours

This answer was rated:

My 14 month old will not sleep for more than 2 hours without waking up to be fed. He eats several times a day, every 2 hours. He only eats small portions. I have tried to increase his food intake, but he refuses to eat more than a little bit at a time. I thought that this was due to breastfeeding, but he recently started accepting a bottle (which had never happened before) and nothing changed. On top of that, he also doesn't sleep enough. He never sleeps for more than 8 hours a day, including an afternoon nap. He's very active, clingy and whiny. I am exhausted and lost. Please help.

Dr. Yogindra Vasavada :

Hello, Sorry about this problem with him. He may have small stomach capacity causing frequent hunger. Please try to give thickened formula and oil/butter rich semisolids to increase sleep time. Night time sleep may be increased using melatonin preparation (a normally secreted brain sleep hormone) in low dose.

Dr. Yogindra Vasavada :

You may also visit a site www.babysleepsite.com for more ideas about increasing his nap time (a downloadable booklet).

Dr. Yogindra Vasavada :

Hope he is keeping his growth curve in height and weight.
