Have Pediatric Questions? Ask a Pediatrician.
Hello & welcome to Just Answer! If you have any questions after reading my answer, be sure to let me know.
I am sorry to hear about your son's cough
The cough should normally resolve within a week to two weeks.
Since this is persisting beyond this period, I would be concerned about the possibility of a bacterial infection, like atypical pneumonia, Mycoplasma infection etc.
I would believe that you should contact your pediatrician for the same
how can they test for either of those?
and possibly get an antibiotic prescription for the same after appropriate tests
The other possibility is a viral infection associated with chest congestion (wheeze)
which your doctor would again be able to diagnose on the basis of a clinical examination
For confirming of the diagnosis, a chest X ray may help
sometimes complete blood counts may be ordered and other tests as needed can be planned
Is there anything else that I can help you with?
no that is great info, thanks so much i will bring him into the ped dr today :o)
