Customer Question

My three year old child was itching his ear earlier,we inserted a q tip to try and remove wax and his ear began bleeding. It actually soaked a q tip. We called his pediatrician, who said it may have been an insect bite and to bring him in Monday. However, his entire ear canal looks bloody. Is it possible we opened up a previous scratch? Would it bleed that much? He is hearing fine out of the ear. Would he be able to hear if his ear drum were perforated??

Dr. Yogindra Vasavada :

Hello,

Dr. Yogindra Vasavada :

Sorry about this problem.

Dr. Yogindra Vasavada :

If he can hear from same side as well as from other side, his drum (tympanic membrane) will be intact. He might have had a bump due to bite or infection of hair follicle.

Customer : Thank you.
Dr. Yogindra Vasavada :

Please instill some antiseptic drops till you visit your doctor and keep wad of sterile cotton.

Customer : Can any scrape in the ear be bad enough to have the entire canal covered in blood? He's acting normal,it's just the amount of blood that is scaring me.
Dr. Yogindra Vasavada :

The area under ear canal skin is richly supplied with blood vessels so it will bleed enough to fill the canal.

Dr. Yogindra Vasavada :

Hope there is no active bleeding now, it should stop in few minutes.

Customer : Okay, and do perforated ear drums bleed profusely?
Dr. Yogindra Vasavada :

Not more but less because drum skin is thn and tout, not having many blood vessels.

Customer : Okay thank you very much
Dr. Yogindra Vasavada :

You are welcome.

Dr. Yogindra Vasavada :

Please give your positive rating.
