What is the bump on my 6 year old daughters leg

Customer Question

A bump that looked like an ant bite came up on my daughters leg. Then it started to look more like a risen. A red ring has came up around it about an inch wide. We mashed it and white stuff kept coming out. A ton of it. We have waited much of the day and mashed it again and there is still stuff coming out but not as much. Could you have any idea what this could be?

Greetings.

Is it painful and tender? Is the white stuff looks cheesy or oily? Has it some smell?

It is a little tender but not to bad. The white stuff is not oily, it is a solid string coming out. It doesn't have a smell.

Hello,

A few more clarifications, would be helpful:

  1. How long has she had this bump?
  2. Did it suddenly appear?
  3. Is it growing in size?
  4. By white stuff do you mean 'real white, creamy, or water' color?
  5. Does she have fever?

  1. How long has she had this bump? About 1 1/2 weeks
  2. Did it suddenly appear? Yes
  3. Is it growing in size? I was until it was drained
  4. By white stuff do you mean 'real white, creamy, or water' color? real white
  5. Does she have fever? no

The ring (redness) around it is still there and a little darker.

Hello!

Thank you for the input.

Your daughter seems to have had either an Insect Bite reaction with local abscess formation or a secondary infected sebaceous cyst( that would account for the white stuff coming out). The red ring is an inflammatory ring. As you have already lanced it and the content has been drained, hot water soaks is all that is needed now for a couple more days.

If the red ring is spreading and still the discharge is coming out, she should be taken to her pediatrician or GP for prescription antibiotic and full drainage.
