SHOULD BABIES BE PUT IN DAYCARE TO HELP WITH SOCIALISATION

Hello...and thank you for consulting JA,

The answer is "that depends"....
on their age;
family make up;
temperament;
how many days..hours?

To send to day care to teach social skills, the child should be about 18 months or more, have no close (in age) siblings, be outgoing and not afraid, and go 2-3 days per week for 2-2.5 hours. Children under 18 months do not need day care but rather one-on-one caregiver is best. If they have siblings, they can learn to socialize at home. If they are frightened around new people, it is best to wait until they are about 3 to introduce groups of children. These "guidelines" are not written in stone...but rather, my opinion having counseled parents of young children for many years.

I hope this helps...
