From your description it seems that you have developed a condition known as Paronychia which is infection of the nail fold.
Treatment would involve warm water siaks and oral antibiotics which can be had with prescription only.
Try to keep your hand elevated as this will help control the pain.
Meanwhile you should take an anti inflammatory analgesic like advil for pain relief.
