Hello!

Yes high reflux to the back of the throat may well cause vocal cord inflammation ( other causes possible too such as viral infection or voice strain )

Reflux precautions may help

1) Wait 1 and 1/2 hour after you eat before lying down

2) Elevate head of bed with blocks under headside bedposts 4 to 6 inches

3) Avoid GI irritants -- alcohol / coffee / anti-inflammatory meds such as Advil, Aleve , aspirin_ ( Tylenol is ok) / hot spicy or acidic foods -- onions -- peppers -- tomatoes

4) an acid reducer may help such as Nexium / Proposed/ Zantac / others

I hope that this is helpful for you

I will be happy to get back with you

Thank you. I am taking Zantac once a day maybe I need twice? But this is nothing life threatening? What causes straining?
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
its not any type of cancer?
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 6 months ago.

Vocal cord strain may be caused by singing / talking all day ( teacher example ) yelling ( football coach example )

The upping of Zantac may help if high reflux is cause ..yes to that

And no indication of cancer --- NO to that !

Thank you. Lastly, what causes high reflux? Does yelling at your kids count??????
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 6 months ago.

High reflux is fluid coming from stomach high to top of esophagus

So High reflux may be associated with factors such as full stomach / hiatal hernia / laxity of lower esophagus to stomach / lying down after eating ...

Yelling at kids might cause voice strain -- yes to that ...

Not reflux so much

I hope that this is helpful for you

Best Regards!

How do you clear hiatal hernia? what is laxity of lower esophagus to stomach? I had a ct scan of the chest in august showed esophagus would any of this show on it?
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
worrisome? I am a panicker
Expert:  Anthony Bray, MD replied 6 months ago.

Hello again,

No 40 percent of adults may have a hiatal hernia

That just means that the top of stomach may protrude at time above the diaphragm

It may have showed on a chest CT

No need to worry

If that is condition is a factor then reflux precautions should help

No need for panic ...

I hope that this is helpful for you

Take care!
