it is also blue in colour under one underarm and not under the other- this has been like this for a long time but is not painful. a little itchy some times.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I have had redness just above my underarm - a non-itchy red patch for some time maybe 1 year or 2 years

a red patch is how I would describe it
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.

This is Dr. David

redness and swelling in the arm pit area most commonly is due to a fungal infection of the skin

fungus like to grow in moist, dark, warm areas and if you have sweat or moisture in your arm pit, this can be a set up for fungal infection growth

if you scratch the area frequently, this can cause swelling.

you can upload a photo of the red patch. I would be happy to look at it

here are instructions.

type a word in the textbox and highlight it

then select the "chain" icon above the textbox or the paper clip icon to upload a jpg

this opens a window where you can click next to the text box to select the jpg or pdf file on your computer to upload into JustAnswer

Hi there,

This is Dr Basu, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.

I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.

Swelling or puffiness and bluish color suggest the inflammation of the underlying blood vessels mainly the veins.

Eczema or atopic dermatitis will cause this commonly.

Redness and itching also suggest that possibility.

Do not worry about anything serious like infection or cancer.

There is no pain, fever, or palpable lymph nodes.

These factors suggest harmless nature of your problem.

Best wishes,

It was my pleasure to help you today.
