Customer Question

I have a pink mole, on my arm. It is the size of a about 1/2cm or smaller. It itches occasionally and I kind of broke the skin on top from itching. It just appears a little dry with a few tiny red specs. Could this be melanoma?

Can I just ask...Does melanoma get itchy and bleed? or would that be another kind of skin cancer?
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
melanomas can bleed on their own without you scratching them
basal cell skin cancers can bleed on their own without you scratching them.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ok. Would a melanoma be pink like that or would be dark? I read about nodular but this isn't big and hard. its soft and slightly raised.
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
melanomas are most commonly dark black and hard.
soft is more likely not a melanoma.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ok. so in general, an itchy mole ca be removed and be anything...from basal cell to melanoma? is melanoma itchy in later stages or early?
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
an itchy mole is most likely 99% chance it is a benign mole.
melanoma is not itchy in later stages
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ok. Nodular melanoma occurs in a brand new growth. This has been there a long time with no change at all. Sometimes gets itchy.
Maybe this is just as you say and I can relax.
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
no change is a good sign.
if you are worried, go see your doctor to get a biopsy of the mole
but I bet it will be benign.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Right. I wanted to make sure this couldn't be a melanoma
Expert:  Dr. David replied 1 year ago.
then get a biopsy by your doctor
that will prove it is not a melanoma.
I bet a biopsy will be negative.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ok. Thanks. Ill try some ointment first and see if it clears up.
