pleomorphic lipossarcoma of the heart. This cancer was found in my brothers heart during his bypass surgery 8 months ago. We know it is very rare. Is it genetic? Our mother died of angiosarcpma at age 76. Any known treatments? He is currently doing low dose chemo. He just finished 5 weeks of radiation.
Optional Information: Person's Gender: Male Person's Age: 65 Already Tried: Radiation w chemo -strong nearly killed him followed by 5 weeks radiation of the heart now low dose chemo once this week. He has a persistent cough and no energy.
Hello, this is Dr. David. I have read your question and am ready to help.we don't think liposarcomas of the heart are hereditary. there might be an environmental and genetic component to patients developing liposarcomas. but we don't know the whole story for this.the known treatments for these liposarcomas of the heart are the treatments your brother is getting at this point. radiation and chemotherapy. these are not perfect treatments, but the best that we have at this point. and they do have side effects unfortunately. I wish they didn't.
