Hello, this is Dr. David. I have read your question and am ready to help.
I am so sorry for your husband.
were did the cancer start? the colon?
what medications were prescribed for your husband to take?
it was started last year. liver and the stomac.vidread, lactulose and spironolactone
the lactulose is telling me that he either has bad constipation
or the liver is starting to fail to clear ammonia toxins from the body and the laculose is used to cause diarrhea to get rid of ammonia out of the body from hepatic encephalopathy.
spironolactone is used to treat hyperaldosteronisem. did the cancer spread to the adrenal glands causing too much aldosterone in the system.
the liver function has to improve before he can receive chemotherapy such as 5FU or xeloda to fight the stomach cancer spread to stomach.
spironolactone can also treat patients with fluid retention or ascities from liver failure.
thank you for the answer. my husband is taking the medicine you mention above. and about the stomach cancer the other doctor told us that the cancer is not spread. on may 24 will see another cancer doctor, and I think is about the chemotherapy and I want your opinon on that?
well, hopefully he is strong enough to tolerate some chemotherapy for his stomach cancer.
5FU based chemotherapy have been the most tested agents for stomach cancers
agents like 5FU and xeloda
have your doctors ask pathology to test the stomach cancer biopsy specimen for her-2/neu. a small percentage of stomach cancers will have this marker positive on the surface of the cancer cell. if her-2/neu positive, then a targeted agent called Herceptin can be used along with chemotherapy to fight the stomach cancer as well
let me know if you have questions.
well, you know that the doctor told me that they will not cut his stomach, because he got liver cancer and if they cut him the blood won't stop bleeding. so now he having nauciated and vomiting.
I am so sorry.
have you consulted with a chemotherapy doctor regarding chemotherapy
is your husband willing to get chemotherapy
talk to the chemotherapy doctor about the her2/neu testing.
