Customer Question

Hi, I am a 42 yr old female. Little background, I have had fatigue for 4 months now, progressivily getting worse. Extreme hot flashes and night sweats, however, I have not had a period in 2 years. Early menopause. Lymph nodes on right side of the body is swollen. low grade fever off and on, Pain in right breast, with sharp pain under right breast. Had all heart tests done including a cath. Everything comes back normal. Had a diagnostic mammo done which showed 2 lumps, ultra sound showed the lumps, and my primary care physician will decide if futher investigation is needed. In the last couple of days the area below the breast on top of the rib cage has swelled up, you can visually see the difference. Now the past couple of days I also noticed that under my arm along the side of my breast is swollen. I could tell this by when my arms where to my side. The pain is getting worse radiating to my elbow and into my shoulder blades. I do not have a doctors appt for test results for a week. this docotor wanted to get all the cardiologist reports back so he could look at them. I called the doctors for the blood test results. I do know however, that my white blood count came back at 12.5, which does not alarm me since I am being treated for a UTI and my colestrol is high. Which I knew that already as well. I am to the point of being irratiable. I have felt so bad for so long and I do not feel as though anyone is looking at my symptoms. I am worried about non hodgkins or hodgkins. The other 2 doctors are more worried about my heart. I do not know what to do at this point or what doctor do I call to see or if I should go to the emergency room? I look forward to your answer.

Dr. David :

Hello, this is Dr. David. I have read your question and am ready to help.

Dr. David :

I am sorry you are not feeling well.

Dr. David :

me being a cancer doctor, I'm worried about those lumps in your breast and the lump in your arm pit.

Dr. David :

I think you need a breast biopsy as soon as possible.

Dr. David :

if the heart tests have all been done and all are normal, why is your doctor waiting for the cardiologist reports?

Dr. David :

I am worried you could have breast cancer?

Dr. David :

you need to call his office and demand to be ranged for an ultrasound guided breast biopsy by the radiologist and have it done this week.

Dr. David :

it is not normal for parts of your breast to swell.

Dr. David :

can you feel a lump in your arm pit?

Customer :

The lump is not actually in my arm pit, it is on the side of my breast where my bra strap would go. About 3 inches down from my arm pit. alot of swelling on that side as well as in my arm pit. Last night is when I noticed the swelling right under the right breast. I do not feel a knot or lump there, however my best friend said it feel like a large knot to her. My husband and mother suggested that I go to the ER and maybe they would do the test right there.

Customer :

It is really swollen in the arm pit area, I would probably not be able to feel a lump if there was one.

Customer :

Also, my husband just reminded me to tell you that I had breast implant 2.5 years ago and this breast that I am speaking about, the implant had to be removed due to a constriction, after it was taken out I was fine. I have not had it replaced to date. There is no discoloration but I do itch on the side and the side of the breast.

Dr. David :

well, you said the mammogram showed 2 lumps.

Dr. David :

I

Dr. David :

I'm not sure what that means.

Dr. David :

you can have benign calcifications in the breast which are not so worrysome.

Dr. David :

but if there are masses in the breast, they might need to be biopsied to know for sure they are not breast cancer.

Customer :

yes that is what they saw 2 areas.....before the mammo she told me to show her where I thought the lumps were and she put sticky tape in those areas. After the mammo, before the ultrasound, she moved the tape slightly. and said this is more where they are. After the ultra sound, they said that my doctor will determine if move investigation would be done.

Dr. David :

well, sounds like you need a breast biopsy or 2

Dr. David :

you need to get a copy of your mammogram report

Dr. David :

if the conclusion is BIRADS 4 or 5, you need to call your doctor right away and get a biopsy scheduled.

Dr. David :

BIRADS is a scale which was set up for radiologist to say how worried they are that they are seeing breast cancer on a mammogram and ultrasound.

Dr. David :

the scale goes from 0-5

Dr. David :

3 is don't know

Dr. David :

4-5 is very very worried.

Customer :

Now I have the swelling under the right breast. Under my arm and the side is very painful at times though out the day. Oh and there is a lump in the right side of my neck, back side, at the very top of the cervical. And a lump in my tongue about 1/2 inch from the tip on the right side. I am sorry, I keep telling you toher things. I just have had so much going on, and when the swelling started last night I just have been focused on that

Dr. David :

0-1-2 is not worried.

Dr. David :

you are right , it does sound like a lot of things going on.

Dr. David :

get a copy of the mammogram report. as the first step

Customer :

ok I will go get that report today. Thank you so much for talking to me.

Dr. David :

you are welcome
