Customer Question

my husband was diagonsed with stage 1 pancreatic cancer in dec of last year. he has had two months of chemo and 5 weeks of radiation hoping to shrink the tumor and have the whipple opertion. he was finished with the chemo and rad last week and started to have bad side effects at the end of the treatment. not interested in eating, tired- hes getting better but VERY slowly. how long does it take to get an appetitie, regular bowel movemnts and some energy back? we are waiting another month before having a ct scan .

Dr. David :

Hello, this is Dr. David. I have read your question and am ready to help.

Dr. David :

I am so sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis.

Dr. David :

sometimes it takes several weeks to several months to recover from radiation therapy and chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer

Dr. David :

it is a very tough treatment course

Dr. David :

did he receive 5-FU and/or gemzar chemotherapy?

Dr. David :

I hope the cancer has responded to the treatments and he is able to have a whipple surgery; however, there is always a small chance that the pancreatic cancer doesn't respond and keeps growing despite the combined treatment. if this is the case, the progressing cancer can cause fatigue and loss of appetite.

Dr. David :

I hope that is not the reason

Dr. David :

the CT scan should show the results.

Dr. David :

best of luck to you and your husband.

Dr. David :

let me know if you have other questions
