Amedee, I purchased a 2004 Alero with a 2.2 litre engine.

Customer Question

Hello Amedee, I purchased a 2004 Alero with a 2.2 litre engine. Test drove great. Bought it for my daughter. She drove it for a week and the engine light came on. My reader said fuel to air mixture. Checked the fuel pressure, nothing so I replaced the pump. Started and ran for about 2 minutes and shut down. When starting the fuel gage shows gas but since it shutdown, when starting the gage goes to zero. This was the same situation before I replaced the pump. What is going on? Help.
JA: How many miles are on the vehicle? And when was it last serviced?
Customer: 156k, don't know service, bought it from an old man.
JA: Are you fixing your Alero yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: replaced the fuel pump (bear!) and fuel relay fuse.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: No, thanks for the help

If you are sure fuel is in tank then next step is checking wiring going to the pump. The black wire should have ground at all times and the gray wire should have power with key in start position. Let me know, thanks.

Dan, a brand new pump, all the wires were in a harness, all connected

Then it sounds like you probably have a wiring issue or bad ground but sadly the only way to test is by accessing the wires to test. Let me know, thanks.
