Oldsmobile Questions? Ask a Mechanic for Answers ASAP
Hi There, I'm Clayso a certified master automobile technician with 30 years of automotive repair and diagnostic experience.
With a vehicle of this age it's had to say specifically why the cruise just quit. I do however have some quick checks that maybe causing the problem(s). Make sure there is vacuum to the cruise control servo with the engine running. Check the operation of all brake lights, especially the high mount stop lamps, if any of these bulbs are burnt out the cruise control thinks the brakes are on. Make sure the STOP/HAZ 20 amp fuse has power at all times and the FAN/ALT 10 amp and GAUGES 10 amp fuses have power with the vehicle running. The link below is a trouble tree for diagnosing the cruise control circuit. A test light and a voltmeter are required.
Cruise Control Diagnostic Procedure
Most all of these checks are made at the cruise control module located at the left front strut tower. Once you have printed this procedure please let me know so I can remove my link.
