1989 Olds Royale 88 no start. Weak injector pulse after cranking.
Hello and thank you for trusting me with your question. My name is XXXXX XXX I will do my best to help you with your Oldsmobile problem. If you spray sarting fluid ino the intake will the engine run?
yes it will
Take the connector loose at the ignition control module and turn the key ON. Connect a test light clip to Positive battery terminal then repeatedly touch the test light probe to the purple/white wire at the connector. Does the injector pulse operate strongly every time, or does it weaXXX XXke it does when cranking?
I does not weaken when I do that.
Was this problem present before swapping out the ignition control module?Have you measured voltage to power wire at injector? Does voltage drop drastically while cranking?
I swapped out the ignition module due to the fact that the car developed a misfire and we had tracked it down to that. Eventually it got worse and worse and now it won't run at all.I've not measured for a voltage drop at the power wire. let me get back to you on that.
Okay let me know on the voltage.
Sorry for the long delay (busy here at the shop this week). The injectors are at 12V before cranking, voltage bounces around while cranking and after about 8-10 seconds the voltage drops to 0.1-0.01V. Any ideas? Thanks
Now we are getting somewhere!! Test for voltage on the 10 amp ECM fuse in the fuse panel while cranking. If you have a similar voltage drop then the problem is in the ignition switch contacts and replacing the ignition switch should fix the problem. If voltage is okay at the ECM fuse then more testing will be necessary at the relay center under the passenger side of the dash.If you would like any additional information or have more questions please don’t hesitate to ask! Hmm, no drop at the fuse. now what?
Under the passenger side of the dash on the far right side, locate the relay center and test power on fuse #7 while cranking. See pictures below for locations.

Ok. no drop there either. . .
This fuse is the one that directly supplies power to the injectors. Try a jumper wire from battery positive to injector power wire at the engine and crank the engine. If it starts okay then there is a break in this wire or bad connection between the fuse panel and the injector harness on the engine.
ok. I will try that. I'll try it first thing in the morning when I get back to the shop. Thank you.
Sounds good. Keep me posted.
