I have a 2001 Oldsmobile Bravada that has some starting issues. Off and on for the past three years, my car decides not to start. Sometimes I have been on long road trips, but other times I have just been running errands. I turn the key and it clicks and sounds similar to an electronic pilot on a gas kitchen stove, but nothing happens. I wait a few minutes, say a prayer, and it starts; or, I may have to wait 3 days or more before it decides to start; then it decides not to start at all and I have to have it towed. The starter has been replaced 3 times, the electrical connection that goes along the side of the fuel tank was reconnected once, the electrical system has been checked, and no problems show up. I have asked about the possibility of moisture getting to it some way, but they say that would not cause it. This is not only a financial drain, but also emotional from the standpoint of being stranded out somewhere.
Hi, I'm Daniel. Welcome to Just Answer. You cannot ask to many questions. Only positive feedback needed while in info request. Lets get started.
Yes I understand completly. therfe are two things over looked alot when dealing with not start issues. one is ground. and I thik this is your main concern. I would check all grounds from neg battery cable to vehicle and the starter. make sure they are clean and tight. or the starter relay may think that there is not enough juice to turn the engine over. Clean them with sand paper and make sure they are tight. and then in case the starter relay is weak change it also. since you are cleaning grounds clean postive side also. to alternator and to starter. go over connections with a fine tooth comb. clean and tight. Then if you still have problems you will have to test start alternator and batery wires including relay to starter wires for voltage drop. This is when something like a break or corrosion has come between the point A and point B.
I am ready to take as much time as it needs to get to the bottom of this. If I am not online when you get back still reply with as much info as you can. When I get back on I will see and resond to you. Thanks Daniel
Thanks, II'll ask that these things be done and let you know the outcome. It will probably be a week or two before I can get back to you.
I will be here. Let me know if any questions come up. :-)
Hi Daniel,
I'm having the car towed to the mechanic tomorrow so will hopefully know something by Friday. I'll let you know what I find out.
Thanks,
Marilyn
Ok Marilyn let me know if any questions come up at all.
