I have a Ricoh Aficio 2018D and when I try and scan

I have a Ricoh Aficio 2018D and when I try and scan something I get the message "Sending has failed. Press Job Information key to check status" I can't find the key. What is the problem?
JA: Just to clarify, what's the exact make and model of your machine?
Customer: Ricoh Aficio 2018D
JA: How long has this been going on? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: I had a new modem installed and this is when the problem stsrted
