Hi, thank you for contacting JustAnswer.com. My name is Russell. I will do my best to provide the right answer to your question.

Those are symptoms of a severe fault in the control circuitry. A high-pitched sound means an oscillation or 'loop' in the circuitry or its guiding firmware.

The carriage being stuck to one side means either

- the control circuitry has been misdirecting it into an endless left-ward travel

or

- the position sensor doesn't register that it is where it is (perhaps, but less likely),

or

- perhaps the carriage is stuck there. Turn Off the typewriter, and try to gently move the carriage back to the right a bit. If it is really stuck, look around it for things that might make it stick in place.
