I have a Canon 4400F scanner I use to scan 35mm negatives and slides. It is showing a line across the middle of the images. The platten and light source in the lid are clean and do not show any marks of any kind. How do I correct this?

Hi, I'm Mary and I'm happy to help you with your scanner problem. Before I can continue to troubleshoot, I'd like you to do a series of simple test scans.I can create the originals if you are able to print. Do you have a color printer available? If not, we can work around that, but it would be preferable if you are able to print and scan a known set of originals.
Yes. I have a Canon MP980 color printer.
Glad to hear that.I'll prepare a few test prints that I'd like you to scan. The results of that will help me troubleshoot your scanning problem.Give me about 10 minutes and I'll be right back with a link to download the test prints.
Additional info: Prints are scanned using the light source under the plateen. This works fine. The trouble I have is in scanning film which uses a light in the lid and goes through the film to the receptor in the platen.
Apparently I have lost the thread of our discourse. My system timed out on Justanswers and I can't seem to get to your last transmission. I am new to Justanswers and can't figure out how to get back to the thread.
Thanks,
Sorry about that! Some internet problems on my end caused me to be offline for about 24 hours.Anyway, thanks for the information on scanning reflective originals using the light source under the platen. I wanted to test that first to eliminate that as a possible source of the problem. You saved us some time and testing. Now, on to the upper light source and the lines in the scan - can you tell me what color the lines are? Also, if you can take a screen shot of a finished scan and upload it to me here, it will be helpful (I'll step you through making the screen shot and uploading).
The line appears to be brown. They are horizontal across the center of the photo. If I can figure out how to attach them, I have two samples. Unfortunately, I have been editing the lines out along with the other marks so the best examples were the easiest to fix and are no longer available.
I apologize, but I'll be going offline for about 24 hours. In order that you don't have to wait, I'll opt out and open your question up for another online expert to continue to assist you.You don't have do relist or do anything on your end. A new expert will join this discussion and continue to work with you.All the best,Mary

I am still waiting for an answer. I may be slow getting back to your expert as I am fairly busy on several things right now but I still have the problem and would still like an anser.
Sometimes, finding the right Professional can take a little longer than expected and we thank you greatly for your understanding. We’ll be in touch again shortly
Please cancel this question and refund my payment. The problem has resolved itself while I was waiting for an answer. As mysteriously as it began, the line has quit showing up on my photos. It may bebecause I turned the unit over to see if there was something I could clean on the inside. Nothing else has changed.
