I have a couple questions regarding the hormone testing I recently

Customer Question

I have a couple questions regarding the hormone testing I recently had done. I've been experiencing irregular bleeding for a few months now. I'm getting my period every 2-3 weeks and this month and last month I had spotting in-between that felt almost exactly like a period. I've had spotting a couple years ago and underwent a sonohystegram which found a polyp and has been removed and the biopsy came back normal. I've also have normal paps and normal ultrasounds and the only medications I'm on are nexium and norethindrone. With that being said, my blood test was taken about day 16 of my cycle, here are my results, if you can explain what your findings are, and what my value means in relation to the ranges that would be appreciated.

any other medical issues?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I have some issues with constipation and hemhrroids. I also take nexium for heartburn but that's all I can think of.
Expert:  DocPhilMD replied 11 months ago.

I don't think these hormone levels help that much

they are all where they should be.

They are normal

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Ok, in your opinion what do you think the next steps would be to figure out the irregular bleeding?
Expert:  DocPhilMD replied 11 months ago.

I would recommend testing thyroid hormone.

was this done?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.

Yes, and it was normal

Expert:  DocPhilMD replied 11 months ago.

Okay good.

Then it could be your meds

that is the only possibility

Expert:  DocPhilMD replied 11 months ago.

Thanks for this question

Sorry I've been pretty busy with work. Just curious how could my medications be the only other possibility? All I take is nexium, northindrone, multi vitamin, and Flonase.
Expert:  DocPhilMD replied 11 months ago.

the northindrone is the culprit

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Ok, I just saw my Obgyn and she wants me to take a ovulation test because she thinks I could be ovulating while on norethindrone? How common is this? Also what does it mean in terms of my health is this bad? She gave me answers but I really don't wana buy this test and have to do it.
Expert:  DocPhilMD replied 11 months ago.
This is relatively common. This is nothing bad. It is just a hormone fluctuation
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Okay and one last question. When looking at the LH Hormone test should I look under the contraceptives range or the luteal phase range because I do take norethindrone ?
Expert:  DocPhilMD replied 11 months ago.

contraceptives

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Ok, my value is 3 times higher the what it should be. What could that mean?
Expert:  DocPhilMD replied 11 months ago.

It means you are surging LH. Could be low estrogen. lack of feedback stopping the LH

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Ok could this be a cause for concern? Any recommendations?
Expert:  DocPhilMD replied 11 months ago.

follow your doctors recommendations and get the test done.

go from there

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Seems like that's pointless when I can't get any answers from the tests I've already gotten.
Expert:  DocPhilMD replied 11 months ago.

That is the next time

it takes time and patience to diagnose complex problems like this

it is a step wise approach

I agree with what is done so far

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Relist: Inaccurate answer.
First said things were normal then said it was one thing then another and finally said it was a complex issue no clear information

What is the reason you don't take combined pill (estrogen & progesterone) but norethindrone (progesterone)? Combined pill are much more effective to suppress ovulation than progesterone only pill such as norethindrone. Combined pill can regulate your period more easily.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I tried it before and I didn't like the side effects. Every other night I'd get woken up with a severe leg cramp and in general it didn't make me feel well.
Expert:  khagihara replied 11 months ago.

Have you tried depo Provera shots or Mirena IUD? They contain only progesterone.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.

No, I haven't. I just want to understand what's going on. I'm okay with changing my birth control if I need to but I'd like some answers on my tests. I don't want all these temporary fixes that may mask an underlining issue, does that make sense?
