Customer Question

I am 23 years old, female, and very active. Recently (maybe 3 weeks ago) I noticed tender pea sized lymph nodes near my groin. The next day, I found a cyst near my anus. The doctor gave me antibiotics and I just finished a whole round of them. The lymph nodes, however, are still swollen. One in particular is hard and pea sized and moveable. I also have lower abdomen pain. Just slight pain. I do not have insurance just yet... Only ER and Urgent care. I will have full insurance in a few weeks. Should I worry about these lymph nodes? They haven't grown really. But I am worried I have cancer! I had a Pap smear done less than a year ago and everything came back normal. But I'm still fearful.

What infection was the doctor treating with the antibiotics? Thank you.

Just skin infection.

For the boil cyst thing found near my anus

Most likely the swollen lymph nodes are from the infection in your anus. It's common that they will swell up and then very slowly decrease in size.

Enlarged lymph nodes can sometimes be a sign of cancer, but cancer is uncommon is someone as young as you.

When you get insurance, you can see a doctor and get checked. Most likely the lymph nodes will be smaller by then, and you probably won't need further investigation.

I freaked out and went to urgent care. They confirmed that I have a UTI. I took a urine test. Would this explain the swollen lymph nodes?

No. A UTI won't cause swollen lymph nodes.

However, an anal abscess will.
